Very Lavender

There is a specific light that exists for about fifteen minutes on certain evenings in late spring — when the sky is doing two things at once, being purple and blue simultaneously, neither colour dominating, both completely present. This set was made to capture that light and hold it still. The lavender was applied first — soft purple with a warmth that keeps it from ever reading as cold. The powder blue was introduced gradually from the base upward — moving into the lavender the way blue moves into purple in a sky that is changing: not in a line, not in a boundary, but in a region where both colours are true at the same time. The blend was managed entirely by brush: small, overlapping strokes in the transition zone, each one feathering the edge of what came before, until the point where lavender ended and blue began ceased to exist. Because the point where they meet is the whole point. The most beautiful thing about this ombré is the middle — the place where neither colour is entirely itself, where both are briefly something else entirely. The maker paid the most attention to that. Spent the most time there. Made it right. This is the set for someone who has looked at a sky like that and wanted to keep it.
