Fruit Salad Nails

There is a very specific kind of joy that only exists in summer — when everything is ripe and bright and the most beautiful things are also the most ordinary things. This set was made from that joy. Five different fruits were painted by hand across ten nails — each one a miniature illustration, each one beginning from a blank nail and becoming something recognisable through a specific sequence of strokes and colours. The cherry required red spheres with highlights, stems in two separate lines meeting at a point, leaves reaching outward. The blueberries required a cluster of blue spheres of slightly different sizes, each one with a small star at the tip to identify it correctly as a blueberry and not any other blue fruit. The orange slice required a yellow base, segments drawn in a fan, a thin outer rind — three distinct layers, each one correct before the next could begin. The grapes required individual purple spheres arranged in the triangular formation that makes grapes immediately identifiable, each one overlapping the next in the right way. Every detail across every nail was correct, or it was started again. The pastel stripe bases — pink, blue, yellow, purple — were painted to match each fruit's colour family before the fruit was placed on top. This is not casual. This is the most technically demanding miniature illustration set in the collection. Made by a hand that takes fruit seriously.
