The Ombré Autumn

Autumn does not ease in. It arrives — suddenly, completely — and everything turns the colour of something warm. This set was made from the exact moment when that happens. The cream at the tip was applied first — pale, almost white, the colour of the sky before the trees have caught up. Then, working downward, the burnt orange was blended in — terracotta deepening toward sienna, the way a leaf changes colour from the outside edge inward. The glitter particles embedded throughout the orange aren't for sparkle. They're for texture — for the way autumn light is not clean or even but broken up and scattered, the way it looks when it comes through leaves instead of clear glass. The fade from cream to deep burnt orange was blended by hand, each nail done separately, each one requiring the same patience as the last — because an ombré that shows a seam is an ombré that was not finished. These do not show a seam. The transition from pale to deep happens over the nail the way colour changes over a landscape: gradually, completely, and without announcing the exact moment it happened. This is the set for the person who waits all year for October and means it.
