Gel extensions, acrylics and press-on nails can all give you long, beautiful nails. They differ a lot in cost, time, how they treat your natural nails, and how flexible they are. Here is an honest comparison, including where salon nails still make sense.

Cost: what you really pay per look
Salon prices vary widely by city, salon and design, and a full set of extensions with art can cost anywhere from about a thousand to several thousand rupees per sitting, plus refills or removal. A Glossora set at ₹1,699 can be worn 3 to 4 times, which works out to roughly ₹425 per look, with no appointment or travel.
The real saving is flexibility: with press-ons you can wear a festive design for Diwali, switch to something minimal for work on Monday, and bring the festive set back for a wedding next month.
Nail damage: the biggest difference
Gel and acrylic usually involve filing the natural nail to help the product grip, curing under a lamp, and filing or drilling to remove. Repeated over months, that can leave nails thin and sensitive. Press-ons sit on top of your nail with glue or a tab and come off with warm water. There is no UV lamp, no drill and no filing down. Read more in are press-on nails safe?.
Look and finish
Cheap press-ons have earned a bad reputation: thick plastic, printed designs, one-size-fits-nobody. Hand-painted press-ons are a different product. Each Glossora nail is painted by an artist and finished with a glassy gel coat, with real 3D details such as pearls and sculpted flowers placed by hand. You also choose from seven shapes and four sizes, with extra sizes in the box.
When salon extensions still make sense
- You want the same set for a month or more without touching it.
- You need nails sculpted to a very specific length for a profession or a performance.
- You enjoy the salon experience itself.
When press-ons are the better choice
- You like changing your look for different occasions.
- You want to protect your natural nails between events.
- You live far from a good nail artist, or simply do not have two hours free.
- You need nails for a wedding or a trip and want them ready the moment you arrive.
